Regain your independence when getting out of bed, in complete safety

Getting out of bed in the morning is something we do without thinking — until the day when loss of muscle strength, surgery, or simply age makes the movement difficult, even painful. This bed ladder with assistance strap is designed to give you back the independence you deserve, without having to ring for help every time you need to get up.

With its 6 evenly spaced hand grips and its adjustable strap that attaches to the foot of the bed, this device lets you pull yourself up gradually into a sitting position using the strength of your arms. No more painful straining of your abdominal muscles or back: you move up grip by grip, at your own pace.

Why this bed ladder is suited to arthritis and joint pain

Arthritis in the hands, wrists or shoulders makes gripping difficult. The 6 wide, ergonomic grips on this bed ladder provide a comfortable gripping surface, even with painful joints. Unlike a simple rope or a sheet, the rigid grips let you transfer the strength of your arms without squeezing your fingers excessively.

The strap fixes securely to the bed frame with two adjustable buckles: no screwing, no drilling, no permanent equipment to install. In 30 seconds the ladder is in place, and it is just as easy to remove for storage or travel.

A reassuring tool for family carers

If you help an elderly parent or a relative who is recovering, you know how much getting out of bed can be a moment of anxiety — for you as much as for them. The fear of falling, the back pain from pulling your loved one, the total dependence… This bed ladder changes all that. It lets the person take an active part in getting themselves up, which considerably reduces the effort required of the carer.

For older people living alone, it is quite simply a tool that delays or avoids a move into residential care by preserving day-to-day independence.

You have a loss of strength linked to age or a neurological condition

Sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss), multiple sclerosis, the after-effects of a stroke or Parkinson’s disease all affect the strength needed to move from lying down to sitting up. The bed ladder compensates for this loss of strength by spreading the effort across both arms and allowing progression in 4-5 steps instead of one sudden movement.

People with tremors (Parkinson’s) particularly appreciate the stability of the rigid grips, which do not swing like a flexible rope, providing a firm and predictable point of support.

Express installation with no tools and no changes to your furniture

Unlike wall-mounted grab rails or bed poles that require work, this bed ladder is 100% removable. The strap fastens around the bed frame or the foot of the bed with two click buckles. The length is adjustable from 80 to 150 cm to suit all bed heights. Once installed, it supports a weight of up to 130 kg.

Our verdict: excellent value for money for everyday independence

As an Educational and Social Support Worker, I recommend this bed ladder for people who retain some strength in their arms but struggle to sit themselves up. It is a simple, effective and affordable device (around €33), far less expensive than a profiling bed or an electric bed pole. The fact that it is removable is a real plus for people who move between home and a holiday home, or who do not want medical equipment permanently on show.

The small drawback: the grips are not padded, which can be a little hard on very sensitive hands. A piece of foam or bicycle grip tape can easily solve this.

Frequently asked questions

Does this bed ladder suit all types of bed?

Yes, it fits most beds with a frame (wood or metal) or a footboard. The adjustable strap (80-150 cm) lets you attach it to slatted bases, classic bed frames or profiling beds. It is not, however, compatible with frameless beds (floor mattress, Japanese style).

What is the maximum weight supported?

The manufacturer states a load capacity of up to 130 kg. For people above this weight, we recommend a vertical grab rail or a bed pole, which are better suited to heavy loads.

Can it be used after hip or knee surgery?

Absolutely. In fact, this is one of the most recommended uses. After a hip or knee replacement, the abdominal muscles and legs cannot provide the necessary leverage. The arms take over via the ladder grips, without putting strain on the lower limbs.

Is installation really tool-free?

Yes. The strap fixes with two click buckles that tighten by hand around the bed frame or footboard. No screws, no drilling, no tools required. Installation takes less than a minute and comes undone just as quickly.

Is it suitable for people with strength in only one arm?

The device is designed for two-handed use. A person with hemiplegia, or who can only use one arm, will find it difficult to progress along the grips. In that case, we recommend a vertical bed grab rail or an electric bed instead.

Is the bed ladder easy to store and carry?

Yes, it folds and stores easily in a drawer or a suitcase. It is therefore ideal for people who travel or regularly stay with relatives and want to bring their getting-up aid with them.
